It seems the Museum in Ocean Township just keeps making history. Or at least repeating it. Long ago stories of the past are remembered for a new audience of viewers and archived for posterity in a project called Hometown Histories.
In it, a guest with stories as diverse as the now-vanished farms in Wayside, postcards of another era at the shore, Broadway musicals that once rang out at Joe Palaia Park, or the entertainment and gambling mecca, Ross Fenton Farm on the shores of Deal Lake in Wanamassa, are among the growing catalog of stories worth remembering being recalled by local witnesses to history.
Most recently three new programs have been posted on the website according to Dallas Grove, the program producer. A family story of old Oakhurst is told by former residents Mary Ann McKean and Cathy Lyle. Phyllis Fyfe, a longtime school librarian, recalls a time when the only library in town was housed at the Wanamassa firehouse. Representing the series 'Towns That Once Were Part of Ocean Township' is Elizabeth Hardy, whose father was an artist, along with many notable painters and illustrators of a century ago, who formed an artist colony in Interlaken.
