View this email in your browser Now Available On Our YouTube Page Hometown Histories (Stories Worth Remembering) - Growing Up on Asbury's West Side: Kay Harris  - (April 26, 2019) Now available on our YouTube Channel - https://youtu.be/nRucYP5byX4 Hometown Histories continues Stories about towns that used to be part of Ocean Township.  Kay Harris grew up on Asbury Park's west side.  The daughter of physician and Asbury Park City Councilman Dr. Lorenzo Harris Jr., grand-daughter of local artist Lorenzo Harris, Sr., and an Asbury Park business owner herself, Kay provides a fascinating insight into the City's history. The Township of Ocean was formed in 1849 when the Township of Shrewsbury was split and the section along the coast was named Ocean.  Many of our neighboring towns were once part of Ocean but broke off to form their own towns over time (which is why the Township of Ocean today has no oceanfront).  The City of Asbury Park became an independent municipality in 1897 and the west side was added to Asbury Park in 1906. Peggy Dellinger, Exhibit Director of the Museum hosts this episode. Dallas Grove is the Executive Producer; Produced by Ted Dellinger; Music is by Bill Madden. The Township of Ocean Historical Museum is a 501(c)(3) charity, and a 100% volunteer organization, that tells the story of Coastal Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA. Funding for Hometown Histories was provided by the New Jersey Cultural Trust. The Township of Ocean Historical Museum, founded in 1984, is a member-supported, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, incorporated under the laws of the State of New Jersey. Its headquarters, the Eden Woolley House, is one of the few 18th century structures still in existence in the Township and is open to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), Thursday Evenings (7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 15 through December 15) and the first and second Sundays of each month (1p.m. to 4 p.m.). The Township of Ocean Historical Museum offers exhibits on the history of coastal Monmouth County and a full calendar of events. The Museum is also 100% volunteer supported, with no paid staff.  The Museum maintains a library and archive, which houses manuscripts, books and photographs of historical and genealogical interest.
