The Great War in Poems and Letters: Reading the Words of World War I Soldiers
Sunday, May 20, 2018, 4:00 pm
Richmond Gallery, Eden Woolley House, 703 Deal Road, Ocean, NJ 07712

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row, / That mark our place, and in the sky, / The larks, still bravely singing, fly."   (Flanders Fields)

The Township of Ocean Historical Museum is hosting its first poetry and letters reading at 4:00 p.m. in the Museum’s Richmond Gallery. It will feature the words of writers from WWI. Most people recognize the haunting verse of the poem “Flanders Fields” by John McCrae, but the era was rich in literary writings that are less known.  Museum members Joe Bove and Lois Kiely invite you to listen and share the words that were written in the trenches and resonate with the emotion of those who fought in The Great War.  You are encouraged to bring WWI poems or first-hand accounts you may have to the reading. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
