2018-03-04 - Hometown Histories (Stories Worth Remembering) - Farm Life in Wayside - Wayne and Sheila Jackson

At one time, most of New Jersey was farms (that is where the name the “Garden State” comes from). As late as the 1960's if you lived west of Route 35 in Ocean Township, your family was involved in farming.

Wayne and Sheila Jackson are both from local farming families. Wayne's family has farmed in Wayside since the early, 1800's.  Sheila grew up on a farm in Colts Neck, before marrying Wayne and moving to the Jackson family farm on Bowne Road. The Jacksons were dairy farmers, who used other properties in town to grow feed for their cattle. They also helped deliver milk to the houses they served.

Wayne and Sheila sit down with our Hometown Histories crew to discuss farming in Ocean Township and the many families who once worked the land to make a living.

Marge Edelson, Museum Trustee is the host of this episode. Dallas Grove is Executive Producer; Produced by Ted Dellinger and Joe Bove; Music is by Bill Madden.

The Township of Ocean Historical Museum is a 501(c)(3) charity, and a 100% volunteer organization, that tells the story of Coastal Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA.

Funding for Hometown Histories was provided by the New Jersey Cultural Trust.
